Joplin
FreeAn open source note-taking and to-do app with Markdown support, end-to-end encryption and sync to the cloud service of your choice.
About Joplin
Joplin is an open source note-taking app that stores notes in Markdown and supports to-do lists, tags and attachments. Notes can be synced through services such as Joplin Cloud, Dropbox or Nextcloud, with optional end-to-end encryption.
Apps are available for Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS, and a terminal version exists. Recent desktop releases add optional AI Chat features, including a setting to hide the toolbar button. The listing highlights privacy: no tracking and no ads. Joplin also imports from Evernote exports, which helps people switching from that app.
The desktop app is licensed under AGPL-3.0-or-later according to the Windows package, and the apps are free to download. Some hosted services are paid, and we do not quote prices here. It suits people who want control over where notes live, and are happy with a plainer interface than commercial apps. Mobile ratings are more mixed, at 4.0 on Google Play.
Set up sync and encryption on one device first, then add others. Keep your master key safe.
