Windows Terminal
FreeMicrosoft's free, open-source tabbed terminal for Windows, hosting Command Prompt, PowerShell and WSL in one window.
About Windows Terminal
Windows Terminal is a modern terminal application from Microsoft. It brings Command Prompt, PowerShell and Windows Subsystem for Linux distributions into a single window with tabs and split panes.
It uses a GPU-accelerated text renderer, supports Unicode and emoji, and can be customised through profiles, colour schemes, fonts and key bindings defined in a settings file or the settings interface. Each profile can launch a different shell, so switching between Windows and Linux tooling is quick.
The app suits developers, administrators and anyone who spends time on the command line in Windows. It is open source under the MIT licence, with development in public on GitHub, and it is free to install.
The download here is for Windows only. On recent versions of Windows it is the default terminal experience, so many people will already have it installed. Because it only hosts shells rather than replacing them, your existing PowerShell scripts, command-line tools and WSL setups continue to work exactly as before inside its tabs.
A sensible default for anyone using PowerShell or WSL. Set a default profile in settings so new tabs open your preferred shell.
