Plex
FreePlex organises your own media in one library and also offers a free ad-supported streaming catalogue of movies and TV.
About Plex
Plex is a media platform with two sides. The server software indexes your own movies, TV shows, music and photos, and the apps stream them to phones, TVs, computers and other devices. Plex also provides a streaming catalogue of movies and shows, and its store listings are titled around finding movies and TV.
The server component runs on Windows, Mac and Linux, while the apps cover Android and iOS among many other devices. Winget shows the license as freemium combined with GPL-2.0, and the store listings show both ads and in-app purchases. Much of the personal library streaming is free, while a paid Plex Pass adds extras, according to Plex's long-standing model.
It suits people who keep a home collection and want a polished way to watch it anywhere. Setting up a server takes some effort, and the free streaming catalogue is separate from your own files. A Plex account is required.
Plan which device will run the server, because it must be on whenever you want to stream your own library.
