mpv
Freempv is a free, open source, minimalist media player controlled by keyboard, config files and scripts.
About mpv
mpv is a free and open source media player for the desktop. It has a minimal on-screen interface and is driven mostly by keyboard shortcuts, a configuration file and scripts. It can play a very wide range of video and audio formats and is known for high quality video rendering and good hardware decoding support.
It appeals to people who like to customise things. Scripts and user configurations can add playlists, thumbnails, on-screen controls and more, and many third-party front ends are built on top of it. The player is available on Windows, macOS and Linux from the project and its distribution channels.
The Android app in the input data, mpv-android, is published by Prismriver Media and is a separate port of the player rather than the desktop project's own release. It has more than 500,000 downloads on Google Play and a 4.2 rating. mpv itself is free software and has no ads, subscription or account. It suits users who want a lightweight, scriptable player and do not mind configuring it.
Newcomers may prefer a front end built on mpv. The Android port is a third-party project.
