KOReader
FreeA free, open-source document viewer for ebooks and PDFs that runs on e-ink devices, Linux and macOS.
About KOReader
KOReader is a community-built document viewer designed first for e-ink readers, though it also runs on desktop systems. The downloads offered here are for macOS and Linux. It opens common ebook and document formats such as EPUB, PDF, DjVu, MOBI and comic archives.
Its strength is control over how a page looks. For reflowable books you can change fonts, margins, line spacing and hyphenation, and PDFs can be reflowed or cropped to suit smaller screens. It includes dictionary lookups, highlights and notes, bookmarks and a configurable interface, and it is extended through plugins.
It suits readers who want an alternative to the stock reader on their device, or a capable offline reader on a laptop. KOReader is free software released under the AGPL, with no ads or paid tier, and is maintained by volunteers.
The interface looks utilitarian, and the menus are deep, so it rewards some exploration. Documentation and community support are available through the project's website and forums, which helps when exploring the many settings.
It is aimed at tinkerers, so the first look can be overwhelming. Start with the font and layout menu, then explore the rest as needed.
